Which Age Group a Player Falls In and the Commitment Required

There is a fundamental difference between middle / high school volleyball and club volleyball.  The higher standard of club play is inherently selective and requires that club invitations be based on the particular team's needs as well as on each girl's individual athletic abilities at the corresponding age level.  Team members are usually the same age and grade (except for those on 13 and Under teams, which are multi-age), and the bonding experience among peers is one of our program's goals.

In addition, girls joining the program are expected to attend practices diligently and be available to participate in all tournaments, except where unforeseen circumstances intervene.

Team practices are held twice a week, on either a Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday schedule.  Two time slots are used:  typically from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and from 8:30 - 10:30 PM, although the schedule for the 2019-2020 season is not yet finalized.  In addition, many of the teams practice on Saturdays, although the scheduling tends to be more informal and intermittent.  Note that Saturday practices are a voluntary commitment of the coach and not a regular part of the program.

Application for DIGS team membership is open to girls ages 9 - 18.  Eligibility for specific teams is based on USA Volleyball's Junior Olympic Age Definitions.  For the 2019-2020 season, they are as follows:

In some instances, a player may "move up" to an older age group, based on ability (and actual class grade in school).  No player can participate in a lower age group.

Players need not be currently enrolled in high school, except as noted below.  Once a player participates in a club or varsity program for any university, college, community college, or junior college, she is ineligible.
